WAC introduces résumé-based event seeding system for males’s, girls’s basketball

Compiling the best record in the Western Athletic Conference basketball regular season no longer matters for WAC Tournament seeding purposes.

WAC Associate Commissioner for Basketball Drew Speraw confirmed a report Monday that the WAC will become the first conference to implement a men’s and women’s basketball conference tournament seeding system based entirely on analytics. The movefirst reported by CBS Sportseffectively makes conference records irrelevant for most of the league and instead uses a system which weighs a team’s wins and losses to determine which program has the highest rating.

“For us, the biggest thing is we’re trying to reward the best résumé when we have an unbalanced conference schedule,” Speraw said. “We’re trying to promote our league moving forward on a national level. We’re trying to reward you with a seed.”
