NBA DFS: Fred VanVleet and greatest FanDuel, DraftKings day by day Fantasy basketball picks for April 20, 2022

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets played an instant classic in Sunday’s Game 1 and after two days off, their series will resume at 7 pm ET. Jayson Tatum had the buzzer-beating game winner and finished with 31 points, eight assists and four rebounds, while Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, displayed his offensive potential with 20 points, seven boards and six assists. Is forming an NBA DFS stack between Tatum and Smart the way to go on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings for Wednesday?

Pairing a superstar player like Tatum with a low-cost but high upside player like Smart is a tried and true winning NBA DFS strategy for daily Fantasy basketball owners. And with five other teams in action tonight outside of the Celtics, what other NBA DFS stacks should you consider? Before you lock in your NBA DFS picks for Wednesday’s playoff action, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account.

This allows him to find the best NBA DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NBA DFS player.

On Tuesday, McClure listed Heat forward Jimmy Butler as one of his top NBA DFS picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Butler went off for a postseason career-high of 45 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals. His performance from him returned 64.75 points on DraftKings and 64.5 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Wednesday, April 20, NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top NBA DFS picks for Wednesday, April 20

For Wednesday, one of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks is Raptors guard Fred VanVleet, who is listed at $7,500 on DraftKings and $7,800 on FanDuel. After dealing with foul trouble in Game 1 and even fouling out, VanVleet saw a full complement of minutes in Game 2. He filled up the box score with 20 points, seven assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

VanVleet should have an even easier time on offense in Game 3 with 76ers defensive ace Matisse Thybulle (ineligible) not hounding him on the perimeter. Thybulle also didn’t play when these teams met in a November contest and VanVleet had one of his best games of the season. The All-Star guard had 32 points, seven assists and six rebounds, making it just one of two games all season in which VanVleet posted at least a 30-6-6 stat line.

Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes stacking VanVleet with PF/C Precious Achiuwa ($4,600 on DraftKings and $4,200 on FanDuel). Achiuwa got the start in Game 2 with Scottie Barnes (ankle) out and Barnes is doubtful for Game 3. Achiuwa had just four 20-point games during the regular season but two of them came against the Sixers.

Achiuwa averaged 15 points versus Philly during the regular season which was his highest average against any team. He also contributed 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and one steal per game as he held his own against Joel Embiid. Coming off an underwhelming seven-point, six-rebound performance in Game 2, expect Achiuwa to feed off the home crowd and achieve closer to his regular-season numbers vs. the Sixers on Wednesday.
